The white mountain village of Competa is just a few miles from Torrox
Pueblo and, like Torrox, shows its Moorish roots.
Located high up in the mountains
(650 metres above sea level), Cómpeta offers spectacular
views across the mountains of the Tejeda National Park and
to the Mediterranean.
On a clear day
you can even spot the shores of Morocco.
A thriving village of three thousand, life revolves around
the central Plaza Almijara with its street cafes, bars and
shops as well as the 16th century church.
Like most Andalusian villages, Cómpeta
has a host of fiestas.
One of the most popular annual fiestas here
is the Noche del Vino (Night of the Wine) on the 15th August
which features a programme of flamenco and Sevillana music and
dance,
plus plenty of free-flowing wine
