Just as England is part of Great Britain, Andalusia
is part of Spain. When the Moors occupied this region of Spain
it was known as Al Andalus.
The influence of the Moors can be found to this day in such things
as street names as well as the famous Mezquita Mosque in Cordoba
and the Alhambra in Granada.
The region is split into 8 provinces
- Almeria
- Cadiz
- Cordoba
- Granada
- Huelva
- Jaen
- Malaga
- Seville

For the holiday maker, the
region offers the traditional ‘sun
sand and sangria’, history and architecture, year round golf
and skiing in the Sierra Nevada.
You can ski in the morning and swim in warm waters in the afternoon!
Andalucia has over 800 Km of coastline most of which is sandy
beach. Incidentally, there are no private beaches in Spain, you
have the right to walk the entire coastline. Recent laws prohibit
construction too close to the coast. 'Acceso público a la
playa' is a sign you may see. It means 'public access to the beach'
probably a right of way over private land leading to the beach.
Sierra Nevada, located in the province of Granada, is Europe's
most southerly ski resort. It's the best known and best equipped
of all the Spanish ski resorts with 48 pistes covering 70 kilometres.
